HVACR Program

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program is 54 credits (720 clock hours) and provides students with the skills and knowledge to begin a successful career in the HVAC field. Summary

The HVAC program can be completed within seven months in the daytime or nine months in the evening. Courses include:

The program is successful because it provides high-quality training with the appropriate combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience in a training lab. Students learn in a classroom environment and HVAC laboratory with residential HVAC equipment representative of what graduates will see in the real world. At the end of the program, students take the EPA exam to become certified to work with refrigerants.

IS THIS PROGRAM RIGHT FOR ME?

This program is recommended for those individuals that like working with their hands to diagnose and correct problems within electrical and mechanical systems, like to help, are courteous, have a pleasant manner, and can follow instructions easily. Recommended high school courses include mathematics, mechanical drawing, applied physics, chemistry, electronics, and computer applications. Knowledge of plumbing and electrical work, and experience with installation, maintenance, or repair is helpful.

UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE HVACR PROGRAM, STUDENTS ARE QUALIFIED TO TAKE AN ONSITE EPA CERTIFICATION TEST TO OBTAIN THE FOLLOWING:

  • Type I - Persons who maintain, service or repair small appliances must be certified as Type I technicians.
  • Type II - Persons who maintain, service, repair or dispose of high or very high pressure appliances, except for small appliances or motor vehicle air conditioning systems, must be certified as Type II technicians.
  • Type III - Persons who service, maintain, repair, or dispose of low pressure appliances must be certified as Type III technicians.
  • Universal - Persons who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of small appliances as well as high and low pressure equipment, must be certified as Universal technicians.
